Munich is constantly growing. More and more people are living and working in and around the city and are looking for sustainable ways to commute and travel. This has caused the Munich S-Bahn to reach its capacity limit during rush hours. Slow passenger flow between train and platform has led to regular delays. Thats why the free state of Bavaria has instructed DB Regio to modernize the rolling stock in order to ensure operational stability and improve the overall passenger experience.
Neomind was asked to rethink the interior and make sure that the high standards of capacity and operational stability were guaranteed. While analyzing, ideating and testing different solutions, we developed a deep understanding for the challenge and finally decided to focus on solutions that ensured a transparent and open interior to improve passenger flow, widen the entrance area and increase passenger numbers. We also included live passenger information and lighting that reacts to sunlight and time of day to ensure a friendly and comfortable interior design.
